BOAF->2001->Brother-> Ghost-> Hood-> Bowie, WHAT? This show, for the past year I`ve had it has seriously graced my airwaves over and over again and it will NEVER get old. The Tweezer and Taste open the show with such intensity and funk. LISTEN to TREY, this is why we love him, this is the stuff that rocked our worlds, i love it. Everything seemed to be on this night and thank God for it.

I`m just gonna snag the Brother reprise mp3.

This night belongs to Chris Kuroda! It`s his lighting masterpiece! He jammed with the band and sometimes even lead them. Musically, this Ghost is one of those you`ll never forget. I still wish Trey had released the tension, but the journey went into a different direction. This preserved the energy that was still to come. The Bowie is not for the light-hearted among us. It`s a raging monster. What a show. Tweezer and the whole second set are certainly among the best of what 1998 had to offer.

Of the 4 Island shows, I can`t pick which one I like the most......this one or the night before (with the Roses Jam!!!). You know the night is special when they open with Tweezer>Taste. C`MON! Great jams in both songs and lots of noodling by Trey with awesome interplay by Fishman throughout. The rest of Set 1 is OK with Limb being the other highlight.
Set 2 is where the fireworks go off. Perhaps the best Birds ever (except Deer Creek 1999) as Trey gets a nice loop going and takes off. Clocking in at over 15min, this BOAF is special and it`s only the second time they`ve played it! The next 60min is perhaps the best continuous segment I`ve ever heard Phish play.........2001>Brother>Ghost>Lizards>Bowie. PALEASE!!!! Words can`t describe where these jams take you, but it`s a good place to be. Special mention must go out to Gordon as he is leading these jams by example, not like the directionless music played in 2004 (Trey`s fault), but gritty, in your face, knockdown jams. Harry Hood encore is icing on the cake, although I`ve heard better (Went).
As mentioned in other reviews, you must buy the whole 4 night run to grasp these shows in the proper context.

It is for sure one of those chills down your spine shows. One of my favorites and could be the best money you can spend in the catalog. TONS of energy, start to finish. They just kick it off with a hot Tweezer, pickin` up where they left off the night before (4/3=great show) and it doesn`t stop. Birds of a Feather and the David Bowie are among my favorites on here. They truly do not give you a break, and that`s just the way you want it and you`ll know after listening to it. this is a MUST HAVE show. There are many reasons the Island Tour was put on here, this show being one of those top of the chart reasons!

2001 - legendary

Add this to the list of shows on this site that are "must haves" in my opinion (12/7/97, and 4/3/98 being the other two). The whole band is just feelin` the vibe from start to finish. A humble plea for future releases: 11/22/97 (my favorite 2 set show I`ve ever heard) and Big Cypress (watch the "IT" dvd and listen to Trey and Fishman talk about that experience). Thank you for these archival slices of beauty. Cheers.
