11/29/2009 Cumberland County Civic Center, Portland, ME

This show proves that Phish still knows how to blow the roof off a place early in the evening. They have done it before, and they will do it again.

This show is incredible. I've been to a number of phish3.0 shows, and after listening to(and more importantly watching, on a well known post your own video website) this show, not only is it one of the best shows since 2003, it shows that Phish is still willing( AND ABLE) to lay it all out creatively, technically, and originally as they ever have. To play the two best shows of 2009 on back to back nights is unbelievable, and 11/28 clearly played a role in INCREDIBLE 11/29 setlist. Being a phish lover, it is so awesome to hear them execute rare, often complex gems like Weigh, Crimes of the Mind, Meat and Freebird so perfectly. The boys are better are song placement than ever, the Weigh>Circus and Light>Crimes>Pebbles are the highlights of a consistently strong show. Light is becoming an unbelievable song, I have yet to see a song that it didn't transition in to beautifully. This show is full of new ideas, and I can't wait to see what 2010 has to offer.

Small venue (for Phish), beautiful Maine, "Nellie Cane". This show was full of surprises. The encore tells it all: Free Bird (a capella), Carini, and Waste. The song that this show has that no other show has ever had is a stand alone version (without The Dude of Life) of "Crimes of the Mind". Very metalesque, like the "Carini". Funny too because right before the show I heard a Portlander, probably just visiting the lot for drugs, taunting the hippie types by barking Slayer and headbanging.

The song selection is great for a fan who sees many shows. Nellie Cane, Weigh, Meat, Crimes of the Mind, Pebbles and Marbles, Free Bird, and Carini are all treats.

The meat contained hilarious antics which went perfectly with the laid back feel of this show.

They came out strong with a rocking Possum which was kind of sad because I personally was hoping for the Saga, but it REALLY smoked and continued with DWD. Nellie Cane and then next Weigh were absolute treats before the band slowed things down a bit with Los Lobos' Circus. Kill Devil Falls gave a shot of the new and was rocking as usual before giving way to Water in the Sky, a song that seems to be an invoking of Trey's Sister's Spirit all tour which then gave way to an absolutely Evil Stash.

Meat brought the funk, but prior brought the hahas, I treasure moments while "I THINK" i thought, being a recovering addict. I THINK the jam and funk were unique and fresh. Then came the God-like Undremind. Mike's Groove was pure trance state ecstasy by this point. WITS>Groove is the real meat of this set.

Set II the Story continued with Moma. The Velvet came above ground and showed us The Light. And then, CRIMES OF THE MIND.

By this time Pebbles and I had LOST MY MIND. A nice ballad and probably best song of 2.0. A beautiful slow down and a time to reflect on children and the miracle of life, as Tom Marshall wrote this song about his daughter.
(truth be told, a rough version, but this was only the second time it was played 3.0 other than the Gorge so it was a treat).

The Space Odyssey continued and things got Old School.

For the encore, a trip on the time machine as Phish did something I never thought I'd see. In other words, the Old School continued.

But then, Carini reared his lumpy head. The thesis that Trey wrote is not a load shit and I want them to just hold a festival this summer and play the Saga for one measely set. We, and they (the band) will be ready. We've been waiting and chasing for too many years. Also, that joke at Coventry hurt real bad Trey (althought I really didn't expect it at that point in the festival).

Last but not least, we were treated with a Triple Encore with the song that most normal folks will remember the band for...because it's beautiful and you don't have to be a freak to understand it. Thank you Phish and your mystical musings. Amen.

you know its a readicculus show when you leave the venue with a broken rib (a bear hug) and whiplash (from dancing too hard)! all jokes aside, I LEFT PORTLAND WITH A BROKEN RIB AND WHIPLASH.

Stellar show....weigh was absolutly sick. Mike is formerly known as cactus and is now prince...fish is his alter ego princess! Seemed like an old time phish show with funny antics, crazy jams and songs I haven't seen in a while. Meat was a treat and the whole second set ripped. I've been waiting for sooo long to see a carini and got it...thanks boys!

Portland 11-29-09 was amazing. Energy throughout. Definitely download Portland. To those disappointed in sound quality of downloads during the past 6 months, invest in a new sound system. The range of the sound in the ones I have is spectacular--a combination of polk audio and rockford fosgate in my ride provide searing highs to chest pounding bass. The recent downloads with decent equipment, one can easily hear how talented each one of these guys are.

I went to this show with a bunch of my old guy friends. i never knew doing a ton of X with a bunch of thirty something dudes could be so much fun! I know it is like taking ice cream scoops out of my brain but I would do it again and again and again. Is there anything more to life then Phish?????

What an excellent show! I have seen every show at the CCCC, and this was one of the greatest. The freebird brought me right back to the Dec 93 show. I believe it closed the first set. After seeing the night before in Albany, I wasn't sure about seeing a second show this tour, but it was worth it. Surprisingly, I thought the Undermind was radical. Listen to Mike's bass effects near the end are worth at least downloading the song, but I would recommend the whole show. It was excellent.
