8/15/2011 UIC Pavilion, Chicago, IL

This venue is a arena of magic. They boys played my favorite of all shows here on 6-18-94. Im sure you heard it, and if you havent, get it, must hear, must own. They didnt play here again til '98 for 3 nights, and now in 2011 17 years after their legendary performance theyre back for a 3 night stand. I wasnt lucky enough to score tickets to any of this run, but after listening to these 3 shows completely, i cant rank them nor do i have a preferance to certain nights. All three nights astound me, i love the setlists, i love their voices, love the covers, i love these shows equally. There is great flow throughout each single set, phish has a way of dropping into songs i dont care for, or have seen many times, and it just feels right and i love it.
These are the best shows of the year, all 3 second sets are unique and flawless, great jams, all 4 members shine.
The first sets are great as well, jams, rare treats, perfect song placement throughout. All 3 shows are going to stand the test of time so pick them all up

Trey wakes up on the right side of the shred...
I'm listening to the Waves from 8/15/11 and I'm struck by how insane Trey's guitar work is at this show. What makes it so impressive is that there was not a ton of evidence that there would be this kind of explosiveness at this point in time from the shaggy man from Burlington. I can't get over how expressive, energetic and rip-roaring his playing is. The peak of Wolfman's, the last solo in Alumni Blues and that Waves solo all are some of the highest points I've heard since the inception of Phish 3.0.

It warms my soul and pleases the ears to hear he's still crazy after all these years. I look forward to his next unexpected display of pyrotechnics.

Holy Full Moon, Batman!! That Wolfman's will rip your head off!!! It's one of those jams when it all comes together, like the jam into Uncle Pen out of BT Gin at the Great Went. The band can never MAKE it happen. They have to LET it happen. On this version, they did. And we get to reap the benefits!!!!!

Guelah papyrus.....and a great Reba! JJLC>WB.....aww heck, this show is ummm, welll.....its just great, ok?

   3.5? 4.0!  (8/17/2011 12:12:18 AM)

P.S. Trey, if you're listening, don't get in any helicopters. Yours Truly, Stevie Ray Vaughn.

three point five? four point OH!  (8/17/2011 12:01:22 AM)

disclaimer: i have never been to a phish show. but i own many phish shows via mp3, all bought and every penny well spent....fukuoka jams notwithstanding. this here show is in my ears now, and i do believe that we are entering a new era. Through pure performances and free offerings (live baits), this band has eclipsed the very ones they were deemed to replace. Perhaps technology and 24/7 cycles have caused it, but I, for one, consider myself lucky that one of these fellas is behind the curtain within.....or without....

Glad to see the positive reviews that this show deserves. The boys were tight tonight! Never have I seen the band so dialed in since I started going to shows. Highlights from first set: Rift, Wolfman's (!!!!!), Reba, Alumni > letter to jimmy page. I get a kick out of the "earthy" descriptions of the second set, but I buy it. Light, Dirt, Waves had a breathtakingly sonic sound. "Steam" was a personal treat, though, since I missed it on the first leg and was too appropriate for how the venue felt at that point in the night. What an intimate place! Oh, yeah and a killer third set or extended encore? whatever it was, it ruled. Thanks Phish!
