At the show I heard this from numerous people east coast to west coast. I heard that someone named Scotty in the phish green crew a long time very close phish friend had died this past week prior to the show. He was really close with everyone in phish and for his death they admired him by playing all S's because his name started with s being Scotty.

I don't get it. What iS the letter "S" anyway? IS it a Sound that you hear when you Say Something or iS it a device to Spell wordS with? Maybe it'S a fruit or vegetable that goeS well with rice? PotatoeS? PathoS? No doze? Really, if a Song StartS with a "t" how can it end with an "S" and Still be conSidered an "S" Song?

Long time phan. I have rarely reviewed shows in the past, and I find myself compelled today to share about this show after listening to the recording. It was pure bliss being there, and listening brought it all back.
First of all, I love the novelty of the "S" setlist. That's so Phish...and I love it! They have always had a remarkable ability to stay true to themselves.... while simultaneoulsy having the phans feel like eveything they do is for us. They have always found creative ways to include us and have us feel part of something special and unique. This night was no different.
Irrespective of the setlist alliteration, in over 100 shows since 96', I can't think of another 3 hour setlist I enoyed more than this show. There was so much emotion in everything they played, and each song seemed to be placed perfectly amidst the others. Phish and their production crew have mastered the art of a live concert experience, and in that space, Phish gave themselves to the music and delivered an extraordinary musical retreat for us all.
The music highlights: 1. I loved the hearing Fishman sing Sweet Virginia. I thought they nailed that tune (which says a lot coming from former 20 min funk jam lover) 2. The Stash was perfectly patient and satisfying...and left me wanting more...just how I like it 3. Huge Sneakin Sally fan, so this was a scrumptious treat. They delivered the goods 4. SOAMule. Fun and joy were inescapable. Ending was super tight. 5. Stealing time absolutley raged. The climax literally had me jumping with tears. All things considered, this is best version I've heard. 6. The SOAMelt went type II and melted my brain. At this point I could have left completely satisfied. 7. Coil set closer was beautiful
I could keep going but really the whole setlist was a highlight for me. I'll only give particular mention to the Steam, which for me was one of more energetic and fierce jams of the night. Then we close the show with Sanity (a wacky psycadelic rock anthem), Sweet Adeline (a classic barbershop standard), and then Sabatoge (a contemporary rap song...albeit with rock instrumentation). Wow. Only at a Phish show could these three songs be played together.......and it feel like it couldn't have been any other way.
Thank you Phish and their phans. This has all been wonderful....and now I'm on my way.
