"My review of the Phish, Gorge, George, Washington, 2021/08/29 concert. This was my first Phish concert! First off, let me just say that I am very happy that I got to see Phish live at least once (I am also happy that I got to see them with a fellow Phan [my Dad]). Anyway, so me and my Dad drove to The Gorge for this concert (sadly we didn’t camp at The Gorge for all three Gorge concerts) and when we got there, we waited in the (so called) “parking lot” (really just a field with supposed parking spots). And as we waited in the parking lot we chatted, listened to Phish (the car next to us was playing Phish) and we met some drunk (or high or some strange guy). We stroked up a little conversation with him and it got out in the conversation that this was my first concert. Me and the guy fist bumped and than maybe about 2 minutes later, me and Dad left our car, the guy, and headed our way to the actual Gorge stadium. I’m happy we met that guy. On the way to the stadium, the air smelled of pot (and/or cigarettes). It wouldn’t be a Phish concert without that smell! Eventually After waiting in a couple long longs to get checked in, we found the stadium and took seats. This is funny because when you go to buy tickets for The Gorge seating, there is like 3 big sections that you can buy from. This is Nice because when you buy your tickets for your area, you don’t have arranged seating, so if you don’t like your seat you can probably find another patch of grass (The Gorge is outside) to sit on. Well, more like stand because during the concert, if you were sitting you wouldn’t be able to really see. When me and my Dad took our seat (basically, whenever there was a break), we spent much time making balls of grass and bumping it to each other. As we sat waiting for the concert to start, a guy came up to us and offered us something. At first I thought he was offering us this food he had in this tray he had. I tried to play it cool and say no but it turned out he was offering a Phish shirt to me because it was too small on him. Thankfully, we accepted his offer before I shooed him away. Fun times!... The concert starts! The opening track was Cool Amber And Mercury (from the í rokk concert). Unfortunately, at this time in life, I haven’t listened that concert yet; so I thought the song was Mercury (because I heard the word mercury in the song). Sad! After CAAM, we heard The Moma Dance and Free (both Phish classics). After these two, we heard a Trey solo song, Lonely Trip. This was a nice calmer song. I never really knew song but I’m glad I heard it at the concert. It was a nice song to hear at The Gorge when the sun was down. Nice mood. After this, we heard How Many People Are You (another song I’ve never heard before). The song was mediocre. After this was Bathtub Gin which was the 2nd longest performance of this night. Also, during the concert, the light panel above Phish, would move around. That was kind of cool. I believe this happened in Bathtub Gin. After BG, Back On The Train was played. This was the only song from this night of the 2021 Gorge Phish standoff that got uploaded as a video from the Phish YouTube channel. After this we got My Friend, My Friend (an unexpected, nice, surprise). Sadly though the ending to MFMF (the park where screaming like thing happens) got cut off BUT did get connected to Rift (another unexpected, nice, surprise) which, Rift does have a scream (kind of) ending to it (which was cool). After Rift, Character Zero came. Now this was a turning point in the concert. One of the most memorable songs for me in he concert. After this was the break in which me and my Dad played more Grass Ball Bump (or whatever you wanna call it). Than we got another song that I was unfamiliar with called Mr. Completely. The most special thing about this song was that it was the longest performance of this night. After this came another pretty memorable song at the concert, Meat. Meat here was memorable because Trey and Mike had a duel/solo moment. Guitar vs Bass guitar. This was a cool moment in the concert. After this, we got Crosseyed And Painless. I am glad I heard this song. Good cover and nice sound to the sound. After this was Saw It Again. This was cool. And surprise, surprise, the guy we met in the parking lot somehow appeared next to us with his wife. And man, he was into the music! Like very into it. He was like (as my Dad said) “A jock hyping up for the game.”. We pointed out ourselves to each other (me/my Dad and the guy). Anyway, after SIA, The Mango Song came. This was quite nice to hear. A nice, happy song to hear. After Mango, we heard Everything’s Right, another song carrying the same vibe as Mango and than we heard Beneath A Sea Of Stars Part 1. Another Trey song. This was another memorable song from the concert. This song was nice and mellow and maybe bitter sweet? (Reference)! Also, during this song, the lights got caught out. This added to the effect. After this we got I Always Wanted It This Way. This song was a really good choice to lead off of BASOSP1 and a good song to end the main concert off. It also carried (somewhat) the same vibe as BASOSP1. After this was a very quick break and than the encore. Isn’t like Phish to not have an encore at some point! The encore was a great end to the concert. After going off the mellow, nice and bitter sweet songs at the end of set 2, we got a Rolling Stone’s cover (probably in honor of Charlie Watts recent death). Sadly, it wasn’t, Loving Cup but the song was still good (even though I essentially familiar with it at the time); Shine A light. After SAL, we got the one, the only, First Tube! First Tube was perfect for the end of the whole concert after all the songs we went through. My Dad got into this one a lot (especially since the first time he saw Phish live [before he was even married!], they did this song. This was the ultimate reprise for him!). This was another memorable song at the concert. It was intense, awesome and just a great end to the concert. Also before the concert, me and my Dad saw a guy with a shirt that said “Trey Is A Jedi” (this is a Phish inside joke). This was memorable for us because we got a picture with the guy’s shirt. This is cool because during First Tube, at the end of it, Trey was doing this cool thing with his guitar making the sound strange and cool and then, he did the Jedi Trey pose! He stuck up his guitar in the air with a ripping (just about) ending note! It was awesome. This was the end of the concert. The gist of the concert: it’s not Amsterdam 1997 or A Live One 1995 but it defiantly was a fun experience and a good concert. Than again though, it was my first time seeing Phish live. Song selection, overall good. Sound quality (digitally), good. Concert length, good or good minus. Playing (from the band), overall good. My rating for the concert as a whole: 4 out of 5. Can’t go wrong buying this one! This concert is a proving point that even though Phish is 38 (at the time of this concert), they are still a great band! Phish on!"
