On July 25, 26, and 27, 2025 Phish returned to their outdoor home base venue, Saratoga Performing Arts Center (SPAC), wrapping up a 23-show tour with stops as far afield as Texas, Colorado and South Carolina. SPAC is a 25,000+ capacity covered amphitheater nestled in the idyllic setting of Saratoga Spa State Park, opened in 1966 as a summer home for the New York City Ballet. It has hosted artists of every genre, but none has made it their home quite like Phish. Having played the region in 1990 at Aiko’s downtown and Skidmore College Gymnasium, Phish first played SPAC in 1992 while opening for Santana with their first headlining show in 1994. In synchronicity with the dates, the SPAC 2025 shows were their 25th, 26th, and 27th appearances there in what has become a homecoming for Phish and their fans, and this tour-closing soiree had a playful backyard barbecue vibe that fueled the weekend’s musical heights.

The band started the Sunday, July 27th tour closer with a breakthrough soundcheck jam that was included as filler on the release. After melting themselves with that check, the band turned their attention to melting the audience, who were already reeling from two superlative shows. The Sunday show opened with Buried Alive > Tweezer Reprise > Reba…and then continued back into Tweezer Reprise > Funky Bitch. Roses Are Free > Tweezer Reprise > 46 Days continued the already-deep improvisation that imbued this entire show. Split Open And Melt > Tweezer Reprise closed a remarkable set and left the place buzzing with anticipation. Set II continued the heavy jamming with an extended Kill Devil Falls > Twist > Golden Age > Tweezer Reprise. This fifth Tweeprise was the Big One, clocking in at 23 minutes and cementing this show’s place in history. You Enjoy Myself > Tweezer Reprise stuck with the theme to close set II. The encore was the first-ever known Tweezer encore (which was abruptly stopped to celebrate the upside-down repeated Tweezer Reprise joke and followed by a “get it!?!” vocal sample) and Harry Hood. Fireflies flitted around the park as astonished show-goers reflected on an historic weekend of shows.

The ‘Live in Saratoga Springs 2025’ box set captures an electric three nights of top-shelf Phish at an adopted hometown venue, recorded by Vance Powell to multitrack, mixed by Jon Altschiller, and mastered by Fred Kevorkian. This collection puts you in the building for the standout tour closers and the ultimate Tweezer Reprise(s).
