"Context is important in regard to the “hate” for the BB King sit-in. This was not just another Phish show. Tickets to 12/31/02 were impossible, so this was MANY people in the tri-state area’s first Phish show or first show since hiatus. While only my 3rd, this was all of my friend’s first Phish show. The legendary BB King did not come out and give a great performance. He would solo for a few bars and abruptly stop and look at Trey with a “I’m all done” hand motion, every time. He didn’t sit in for a song or two, doing this. It went on for waaaaaayyyy too long, killing the energy. This was not what people waited years for. Just imagine the difference in energy between the DWD opener and end of Rock Me Baby. The DWD opener is perfect, listen with headphones. It almost sounds like the jam was scripted/practiced; just listen. Haley’s>Hood is fantastic. I don’t hate or love this show, but I think context is important for newer fans reading “bad reviews” about a legendary sit-in. "

"upon a second listening to this show. I'll withdraw some opinions of this show. this show is classic. i guess it was one of the shows for me where on the second listening you start realizing its better upon first listen. it will be a show i'll be listening to again. although i will say its still not the strongest Heavy Things I've ever heard still. i still think it comes off thin sounding.I can't believe some people didnt care or appreciate the fact that BB King and his songs dominated the first set. You guys got to see BB King play with phish and you didnt care for it?? crazy! it's not exactly a big surprise something like this happened at a show. phish has an appreciation for blues. mostly the chicago blues scene/style. if you went to the show and didnt care for it i'd say buy and listen to it again. this show didnt exactly grab hold of me for me to take much notice the first time around. but the second time did. this show does remind me of that time when a bluesman joined the grateful dead at the academy of music in '72. but i think phish did it better."

"i found the first set was a good firm set. although not being a big b.b. king fan this is probly one show that wont get much play on my mp3 player. the second set is ok too although i will say that there are weak moments in halley's comet and heavy things everything after that and harry hood is pretty decent. the second is "an inbetween" set with me. i didnt exactlly listen to the second set thinking "oh my god this kinda garbage" but didnt exactly make me think "oh man this set is on fire!" but also i have yet to listen to a show where im thinking "this is garbage why did they put this out??"."
