"I can’t believe there are only 2 comments on this. It’s a strange thing - Coventry. I’m not sure there’s been any realer music played publicly, save for maybe the final Grateful Dead show. This first soundcheck proves the band still had tremendous legs but were beset by addictions. We are so thankful they survived. But it’s always fascinating to stare into the darkness and listen to what the abyss echoes back to you. This first jam is potent and flexible and everyone is fully bought-in and responding to each other. The space they arrive at 10 minutes in reveals the dark sorcery they still had full access to. It is curious to notice Trey’s absence for the first 3 minutes though. In high school, we were seniors in 03/04 and my friend Dean remarked that Page, Mike, and Fish should have just ditched Trey and toured as a 3-piece, calling themselves “It”. The opening of this jam shows how wonderful that would have been. Still though, once Trey joins, it elevates to some truly spectacular beauty. The ending of this alone is breathtaking. Possibly the best music they made in all of 2.0. Listen at all costs. "
