Show Notes

On December 2, 1995 Phish played their second of three shows between 1993 and 1998 at the New Haven Coliseum (aka Veterans Memorial Coliseum) in New Haven, Connecticut. New Haven ‘95 fell in the middle of a legendary 54-date fall tour – the most extensive since 1993 - and the band was coming in hot from an impressive week, from their first Hampton appearance to shows in Nashville, Dayton, and Hershey. The Coliseum was a modernist style Northeast hockey arena with a capacity of about 11,000 and a built-in helical parking structure stacked dramatically atop the venue. Tickets cost $22.00 and the show was sold out – a scorching rocker on a freezing cold Saturday night. New Haven ’95 set I got rolling with the first Prince Caspian opener followed by an impressive Runaway Jim. A spacious conversation developed in Reba, which reached a soaring peak to alight sans-whistling at My Sweet One. Free showcased a deep piano excursion supported by Trey on percussion and swirling effects, followed by the newly-reworked-for-fall Taste. The Possum closer maintained the set’s flow and intensity and welcomed in the setbreak. After the traditional fall ’95 Audience Chess Move, set II blasted off with 2001 > Maze > Simple > Faht > Tweezer > A Day In The Life > Golgi Apparatus. Maze had a warped intro out of 2001, Simple resolved into the last Faht to date, and the explosive New Haven Tweezer. The Squirming Coil, Tweezer Reprise, and an emotional Bold As Love encore brought the night to a close. New Haven Coliseum was imploded in 2007 but the reverberations from this show will last forever. New Haven ‘95 was recorded by Paul Languedoc to 2-track digital and mastered by Fred Kevorkian.

"This Reba is underated a beautiful beast that will leave a tear in your eye and a smile on your face. "

"After coming off of a hot night in Hershey (12/1/95), the band did not seem complacent. The back to back scorchers just shows how Phish was at one of its peaks, and they weren’t slowing down. "

"Under appreciated and well under-rated. This show flows like butter, and just builds on the magical groove they’d found at the crest of November into December 1995. This show is zero fluff, all quality. And the HD recording through excellent speakers just brings to life every nuance. "
